2016 Festival Fireworks presented by Appleton Area Jaycees

July 6, 2016

GOODNESS!!!

This Sunday was a blast!! (if you consider running around for 13+ hours and logging 20+ miles and getting some major tan lines a blast, haha)
My bestie Colleen (yes, another Colleen)…well, her daughter was kind enough to take my camera and snap some photos. And when I say kind enough…there was some bribery involved. (she got funnel cakes and treats out of it)

So..why is this such a big deal for me? 5 years ago I join the Appleton Area Jaycees (Junior Chamber). I actually joined because of this very event. When I moved back to this area after my military deployment, college and living in Milwaukee, I really wanted to get more involved with community and to network with other like individuals. I had realized that I have almost no friends here and so…I found out about the Jaycees and they’ve actually helped me find some of my amazing friends I have today. Tagline should really be…umm… “No Friends, No Problem, Join the Jaycees…we’ll be your Friend”. hehe
No really, it was the Fireworks event that drew me to it. I could have joined any Jaycee chapter, but I choose to join Appleton because unlike any other city surrounding us, the Appleton Jaycees actually seeks out all the funding and organized this entire city event. No tax payers dollars, no city help…nada. That’s a huge thing to be a part of and I’m ridiculously patriotic, so of course, it was my calling.

I’ve chaired and co-chaired this event twice and this year, I was lucky enough to assist and provide guidance for Nicole Korn, our chair this year. Being on the committee and putting this entire event together and then seeing it unfold on the day of is SO rewarding. Here is a peek into the day and all the volunteers that sacrifice their time on a holiday weekend to help make this event happen.

AND Boogie and the Yoyo’s….we pretty much get to rock out to some talented people and killer music the entire evening. This year for the second year, we invited Eminence back, who opened for Boogie and these girls can rock it!! So happy to have them on stage!!
Well, I’ll keep this short…the photos tell the story of our day, so check it out!

We had our first annual mini craft fair and we had lots of folks stop by, so we are even more excited to turn it into a bigger event next year and maybe even earlier in the day. How excited will that be!!!? So many cool goods to buy and hopefully even more next year.
