st pete beach wedding

CLM Travels | St. Pete Beach, Florida

December 6, 2016

Wow….can’t really believe that just yesterday I was standing on St. Pete Beach with my toes in the sand and sun in my face. It was a short trip but I suppose I would not have changed that at all. Not unless I had been able to bring my Stanley with 😉 This past weekend I was fortunate enough to photograph my friend Sim Yin’s wedding. I am going to have way more on that in the coming weeks, so today I’m just talking about my little adventure!! First off, I was able to bring a friend a long. My good friend Shaunae of Shaunae Teske Photography joined me as we embarked on our little wanderlust adventure. Neither of us had actually been to that side of Florida and I can confidently say, that we both loved it there and would enjoy visiting again. The people were so nice and it really wasn’t too “touristy” so to speak. I had decided before the trip to forgo the rental car and simply Uber or Lyft wherever we went. And it worked out perfectly. I wanted us to immerse ourselves into the area as seamlessly as possible. We stayed at an AirBNB that was literally steps from the beach. In fact….it’s actually the very same beach we did photos for the lovely bride and groom on the wedding day!!! How cool is that??
Our AirBNB was adorable. Salmon-colored walls stood out and made me happy just looking at the building. We squeezed our way up a flight of very narrow stairs and into our unit that too…had a very narrow doorway to get in…but once we got inside…ahh…it was nice to walk into a place that felt a little more homey than a hotel. I got my own room and Shaunae got hers. We quickly settled in and then…..snoooooozze….haha. We flew out so very early that we hadn’t gotten more than a few hours of sleep and we both just passed out!! Yep…totally wiped out. HAHA!! When we finally came to…we were hungry. Of course! So, we got ourselves together the best we could, hopped out to the beach to see our first St. Pete Beach sunset and then walked over to a local place for dinner. Yum yum…seriously…I can not say enough now amazing all the food was. And thank goodness for YELP!!! Seriously saved us from going into any bad restaurants so we literally got spoiled with tasty food the entire weekend!!!
Now it was Saturday, and that was our exploration day!! We started with tasty Starbucks….mostly because we really weren’t sure where all the local yummy coffee joints were. After getting our caffeine dosage for the day, we explored Central Ave in downtown St. Pete area. There were so many shops where I wanted to take everything home with me. It’s just too bad my suitcase doesn’t fit four dressers, a giant mirror, and a few chairs. lol. We explored and then found the most energetic salon to get a mani-pedi!!!! We sat and sipped champagne and got pampered. And the best part…it wasn’t outrageously priced either!! Gotta love that!! Soon into our pampering, our tummies were crying out for food. So, we quickly stopped at Cask & Ale, an insanely delicious Tapas place and had our fill before heading back to the room and then to the wedding rehearsal and dinner!!
Sunday morning rolled around and I went for a stroll on the beach followed by a coffee run. It was the wedding day!!! All our gear was ready to rock and roll and we headed out for a late breakfast at Shrimpy’s before the wedding. What a super fun place…they had a pirate statue in front of the restaurant right away and a complimentary beignet!! OMG…totally reminded me of New Orleans…but the last time I faced off with a beignet, I giggle a little and the result…powdered sugar…evvvverywhere!! haha. With both of us wearing black, I didn’t want to take that risk so I even pulled up my napkin. See photo below 😉
Off we went and oh wait….there was a huge motorcycle parade of some sort and the entire street and intersection was blocked off. So, we waited patiently for the parade to finish and headed to the resort where everyone was getting ready. Now…I’m not going to spoil wedding day fun, so that’s for another time;)
The very next day, we had to pack our things and get going. Total bummer!!! I slept in while Shaunae took a quiet stroll on the beach searching for seashells to bring home to her mom. She picked out some pretty good ones too!! We packed up, stored our bags and went back to Starbucks and Central Ave for more wandering. We went to The Lure, another Tapas place for lunch. Again, so so so good!!! Then a cupcake place for dessert and back to grab our things to fly home.
I love travel so much and always enjoy adventuring in new places and seeking out local finds. I’m so happy Shaunae was able to join me and help second shoot this wedding. We had an absolutely fantastic time and now we will forever have memories from our little trip!!! Thanks for tuning in….wedding photos to come!!!
