Finding Peace in 2016

January 19, 2016

So, after a full and very rewarding 2015, it’s time to sit back and relax and find peace before the next crazy year begins. Well, at least that’s what I thought when we rolled into January. Until I realized, that I was going to be just as busy with putting together my first stylized shoot, submitting multiple weddings and engagement sessions for publication, and working on taxes just to name a few. With so many folks putting together their New Year’s Resolutions and setting their 2016 goals…I’ve decided to put it off until February. Yup…that’s right. I’m putting off my goal setting until then. I’m sure it’s not ideal, but if I can’t seem to find peace for myself and my family in busy times, then I need to make peace in all the in-betweens.

I find peace in the morning…when my son wakes me up with his incoherent and super adorable babbling. And I sit there and enjoy 30 minutes of him adoring his mommy:) My favorite!!! This is my peace and I love it. Even if I’m exhausted or extremely tired, it’s okay because how could I say no to this little sweetie! I find peace in the silence when he goes down for a nap and I can take a few moments to watch him before I get back to work. I find peace in making a hot chocolate so I can have something sweet to sip on while I answer emails. I find peace listening to the cold winter winds howling outside and know that I’m comforted in my warm home that my husband and I have chosen to raise our family. I find peace after I hit the send button on an email, submission or inquiry; knowing that I’ve accomplished a task. I find peace in so many moments throughout the day.

What does this mean, you say? I keep telling myself that I don’t have time and that I need to take time for myself, but I now realize that I’ve already been finding peace and finding time for myself throughout my work day all along. I’ve just never thought of it that way. It took me a step back to focus and look at my life and realize, I already have it…I just needed to look deeper. I have peace in 2016 and I can’t wait to sit down and carve out a little extra of that time to set my goals for 2016 and share them with everyone.

So I’ll leave you with that. Find peace in the in-betweens…find content, find freedom, fine happiness……find love. Love for yourself, your moment….your day, your life. Love for what you have and what you are and what you are going to become. Find peace.

  1. Love this! Everyone gets so hung up on new things in January, I love you are taking time!

  2. John Trent says:

I like how you not only realized through deeper introspection that you already have peace, but the fact that you took the time to do the introspection proves it.

Those small moments of peace add up and its good to remember they are there.

    Thank you for sharing this!

  3. Kim says:

Love your thoughts on this! It’s always so good to remember to slow down and take time for yourself.

  4. BEAUTIFUL. WHENEVER I GET OVERWHELMED, I TRY TO THINK “WILL THIS MATTER IN 5 YEARS?”…IT REALLY HELPS ME TO TAKE IN ALL THE LITTLE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT!
