STRUGGLING WITH STYLING INSTAGRAM | STRUGGLING WITH BALANCING LIFE | STRUGGLING WITH BASIC BUSINESS FINANCES AND ESSENTIALS

So often I hear “I’m not a photographer”. How do I get my Instagram to look pleasing and styled if I can’t take good photos. And I totally get it!! Instagram is all about how to get that perfect looking feed and get great images to attract just the right folks that you want. Whether it’s your personal pottery shop or you’re a fashion blogger; eventually, you’ll need to curate the right photos since that’s literally all Instagram is — photos! Taking time out of our day or choosing just one day a week or every other week to go through and curate your feed is well worth it. Start by taking a look at the feeds that you admire and make a plan.

Many businesses that blog are growing at a faster pace than those who don’t. Because guess what??? People don’t buy stuff from companies, they buy stuff from people. I always prefer to make my purchases from people and companies that foster the same values that I believe in. And sometimes, reading their blog is what helps me get to know them. It helps me understand who they are and that they want more than to just push out their products with price tags, but that they actually care to provide meaningful content on a day to day basis. That’s a company I can totally get down with!

I’m not a photographer, how do I style my Instagram? Why is it beneficial to my business to blog?

When I first started my business I remember going super crazy. I was working full-time, enrolled in school for my Master’s Degree, and active in the Army National Guard on top of running my photography business. And all the while…trying to make sure I didn’t totally neglect my husband. haha. So much so that I had to block of date nights, haha. Which I still do today. But finding that balance and taking time for yourself is so important. You can’t keep going if you don’t take time to fuel yourself up every now and then. So, it’s important to take that time for yourself to find balance.

I’m going crazy trying to balance my work, my life, my creative job.

What sales tax? File for an EIN what? Cost of Goods Sold…what’s that? Income Statement, huh?

I consider myself lucky in some sort. My background is in Finance and Accounting and an MBA. So I’ve been fortunate enough to have an educational background in all things business and finance related. So, when it comes to balancing my creative “checkbook” and dealing with sales tax and what not, it’s right up my alley and I didn’t struggle with it. But I do have friends that have zero fiancne and accounting backgrounds and THIS…THIS is the bain of theri existence!! HAHAHA. With taxes and entering expenses and tracking costs etc…it can be a nightmare. But the thing is, you just have to really devote time to doing it and getting it out of the way. If you start with the not so fun stuff first, you’ll have more time for the fun stuff later.

All in all, for everything I touched on. This is what fueled the workshop; Kreativ. Between myself and two industry leaders, we help walk all creatives through the process of styling their Instagram and ensuring they’ve got just the right tools to use. Finding balance and grounding yourself with a little creativity and self-care and finishing off with those business essentials that are tough to grasp. So, if anything has reasonated with you, check out Kreativ Workshops happening at The Draw in Appleton on Friday April 28th.
