New Orleans Styled Shoot 2018

February 21, 2018

I had the absolute pleasure of attending this year’s Rising Tide Leader’s Retreat in New Orleans. (post to come on that) With some notice that I was going to be heading down that way, I started a process of connecting with folks in the area and trying to set up this very shoot that you see below. I did cold calls and emails. Really…I actually picked up the phone and called places directly asking for assistance. After many calls and many more emails and follow-ups, I became discouraged that with all my efforts and with my advanced planning, I wasn’t going to be able to pull this one off.

Luckily, I had a secret weapon and didn’t even think to use it. My colleague and friend AJ of VAMP Artistry had a pretty good pool of contacts in New Orleans as she frequently visited and traveled there for work and friends. And just like that, it was as though a lightbulb had gone off and bam…we were off. Planning started and AJ even hopped down to NOLA a few days early to get things settled and I could not have been more impressed and relieved that I had such a supporter in my midst. I had my heart set on doing photos at the iconic Tree of Life in Audubon Park and was so thrilled when I knew it would happen. I also have to give a huge shout out to my friend Heidi with 139 Hair by Heidi. She is from Minnesota and extremely talented (seriously…just look up her Instagram!!). She helped me two fold. First, she championed through the flu to do hair styling. And…due to extreme situations, we had lost two of our males for the shoot and at the very last minute were not sure if we would find anyone. Heidi kindly asked her husband, and he obliged and I was over the moon!! It’s like the  clouds parted and life decided I would get my moment.

AJ helped so much with all the styling and working with Century Girl Vintage to get all the little details. From vintage earrings to shawls to outerwear…they had it covered. Their accessories truly pulled together that true New Orleans look and feel. I LOVE this little shop and can not wait to visit again. If you find yourself in New Orleans, this is a MUST go to spot. Absolutely beautiful and timeless pieces with that New Orleans authentic flare.

I am so thankful to all the vendors that participated in this styled shoot. I loved that everyone worked to pull this together from the models to the styling to the fresh florals from Carrollton Flower Market. Pearls Place Bridal was STELLAR!! Not only were they completely open to collaborating, they even offered to lend us way more wedding dresses than we could carry out the door. I may have been a good thing that I wasn’t in town all that long because I would have totally taken him up on his offer an about cleared out the entire store for some badass photo sessions!! Love this place and their selection is AMAZING! I am so thrilled to share this shoot with everyone.
