How can I even begin to describe this day??
Tolu and Deonte hold a special place in my heart because I feel like we met truly because of fate. Yup…that’s right. It was nearly by chance…like <10% chance that I would happen to be at a venue these two were touring. And it was just by chance again…that I arrived incredibly TOO early and took time to meander around. Tolu and Deonte didn’t plan on and were actually considering not visiting this particular venue that day. So…they went despite knowing they were not going to book this venue and I happened to be there photographing details before my couple was to arrive. I kindly stayed out of their way so that they could see the venue and all its glory when they quitely asked me in the hallway if I had a card. I had already immediately felt a connection with them, but to not sound like a TOTAL weirdo…I smiled and gave them my card (meanwhile, smiles SO big and fingers crossed that they’d call). And hey…weeks went by and BAM. We got connected and here we are now.
I couldn’t be more grateful to have documented their wedding. Who would have thought that a chance meeting at a college party plus one devoted friend that was determined to get these two connected would lead to all this. After meeting in 2010, their lovely friend told each party that the other wanted their number. Neither of which was true, haha. But it was perfect. Because that turned into a long and beautiful courtship followed by a proposal in 2016. Surrounded by family and friends and with the blessings from Dr. O., Deonte asked that special question and without a thought, a resounding YES!
These two spent so much time apart and even with work keeping this in different states and countries for that matter, they only loved more and loved deeper. These two will melt your hearts if you ever get a chance to meet them. I seriously felt like family at their wedding and I still smile my biggest smile when I look at their images. The wedding day was perfectly imperfect. It was windy, cold, and rained nearly the entire day! And even with that, everything seemed to flow just right and everyone had the best attitudes. From their first look that had me in tears…to their vows that seriously touched everyone’s hearts…to the choreographed dances…not to mention the traditional Nigerian outfit change that blew my mind!! This entire day was perfect and I love these two and their amazing families. I know this won’t be the last time I see them and I am excited to follow their journey and keep in touch.
