3 Huge Mistakes to Avoid

So…you’ve scheduled your engagement session. Now what? Well, first, don’t be too alarmed. As your photographer, I will do everything within my power to get you fully prepared for your engagement session. But here’s the thing. There are 3 HUGE Mistakes you must avoid.

First Huge Mistake – matching. Yup, you got it. When you pick your outfits, don’t be so matchy matchy…it’s a huge mistake and could cause your photos to look more “ehh…” than “wow”. So, how do your avoid this, simple. COORDINATE your outfits. Instead of matching outifts, i.e. jeans and a white tee shirt…try picking outfits that coordinate with each other. The easiest rule of thumb is using the opposite colors of the color wheel. See a perfect example here right here. Kate and Derek hit it spot on! With Derek wearing something that is very busy, it helped that Kate wore a solid color to better coordinate. And even moreso, choosing a color that resides in the outfit that Derek is wearing, makes it come together so much more.

Second Huge Mistake – not doing your hair and makeup! Gosh ladies!! Think about it. These images are there to compete with your gorgeous wedding day photos. So, take a wee bit of time to doll yourself up and really make it worth while. None of that rolling out of bed look. I’m onto you! Having a professional provide hair and makeup services not only makes you look fabulous…but more importantly, you FEEL fabulous. And when you feel that amazing, it truly shows in your images. You smiles are brighter, your confidence is spiked, and your feeling pampered with so much attention and love from your soon to be!

Third Huge Mistake – too many patterns. Sometimes when you are choosing your outfits and you choose something that is stripped and then another thing with polka dots and another with flamingos (exaggeration)…the patterns become so overwhelming, that I’m not longer photographing you and your love for each other…I am now photographing brightly patterned clothes instead.

There is nothing wrong with keeping it simple.

If you are a person that is really terrible at coordinating outfits…and if my guidelines I send you, still have you in a rut. That’s okay! Just go with simple colors, simple patterns and what not and you are all set. Take a look here. Danielle and Greg rocked it with a simple jeans and blue shirt for Greg, while Danielle wore a beautiful cream dress. Simple, right? And yet, so beautiful at the same time!
