Rough start means you keep at it! | Film Photography

June 22, 2016

This week, I got my first rolls of 35mm film back from Photovision Lab. It had been many years since I last photographed on film and wanted to get back at it for personal development and creativity. I knew that I was quite a bit underexposed, but couldn’t quite place a finger on how underexposed. Well, now I know, haha. I’m so excited to get my next roll developed and to start photographing more with film. Here are the few that turned out from my mess of photos that I took. I know that I will only get better and better and I re-learn the ticks of my camera and film. Enjoy.

Camera: Pentax K1000

Film: Kodak Portra 400

Lab: Photovision

  1. Isn’t film so much fun!? I just bought my first film camera last fall and need to pull it out more often than I do.

These look great! Glad you’re inspired to keep up with it, film is really wonderful because I find it to make the most accurate representation of natural light- I mean that’s what film literally does. As far as exposure, do you have a built in light meter in your camera or are you using a hand held? Would be happy to help you nail that exposure if you’re looking for tips! <3

I started by relying on my in camera light meter but after a few shots, I knew that it was off. It just didn’t make sense what settings it was saying was exposed properly. So I make adjustments and so on. I will be investing in a light meter soon.

I love how honest you are. I think people (myself included) really respond to honesty. But your photos are still gorgeous.
